1. Bungalow

As time passed by, there have been different terms referring to bungalows. In India, it’s called single-family dwelling while in Canada and the United Kingdom it’s called one-storey units.

Since bungalows are usually small, it is easy to maintain and clean because there’s not much space. You can also save money since it’s easier to maintain your desired temperature, and no need to worry about its value because it remains high.

2. Townhouse

A townhouse usually has a multi-storey floor, and shares a wall or two with other houses. Although the structures of townhouses are almost always the same, they differ in operations. Some townhouses are like condos in which the buyer owns the interior of the house but not the exterior, while in the traditional townhouses, the interior, exterior including the land are owned by the buyer.

Townhouses originated in early England where it was called “in town” by the royalties. Since then, the term has stuck and developed through time. According to the National Association of Home Builders’ research, the construction of townhouses declined from 2008 to 2020.

3. Single-family

A single-family home doesn’t have its concrete definition. It just depends on whether a house is detached from the others, and can function on its own. In addition, it should also be owned by the current family living there.

Aside from the property itself, any other utilities such as heaters, air conditioners, and water systems should not be shared. They must also have straight access to the street, and private entrance and exit.

When you choose to buy a single-family house, consider the space you’ll occupy and the maintenance it’ll take. For some homeowners, it’s hard to keep a huge lawn and a lot of different rooms tidy so they settle for condominiums or apartments. 4. Apartment

An apartment usually comes with more than one dwelling, which is sometimes called a block of flats. It’s usually built for domestic use but also used for commercial purposes.

“Apartment” comes from the French word “appatement”, and also from the Italian word “appartimento”. The word apartment comes from the French word “appartement” which originated from the 1800s. Since then, apartment designs have changed but it still resembles current apartments today.

Normally, apartments are built at around four to eight levels, but it also has different types:

  • Studio- single, large room that contains a kitchen and a bathroom.
  • Convertible- bigger than the studio type where you can build a wall to separate two rooms.
  • Loft- single, larger room than the studio type, but with high ceiling.
  • Duplex/Triplex- has second or third floors that usually serve as bedrooms.
  • One bedroom- bigger than the studio apartment because it already has a separate bedroom.
  • Garden Apartment- has access to the backyard, and usually on the ground level or underground.

5. Tiny house

A tiny house can be interpreted in many ways. Aside from the size, what makes it tiny is that it uses less carbon footprint and innovative technologies.

Choosing to live in a tiny house has a lot of benefits like experiencing change, saving money, and maintaining at a low cost. Despite being low cost, tiny houses can also be built with the same quality as traditional houses.

6. Ranch-style
