Aloe Vera Cultivation 

  • Aloe vera is one of the famous medical plants known as herbs. This plant is an essential part of the Liliaceae family. 
  • It is a perennial plant that has 1½ – 2½ ft in height. 
  • The cultivation of aloe vera is called “Phyllotaxy”. 
  • Aloe vera leaves are long, juicy, and thick. On both sides of the leaves is a throne structure with the tip of a throne.
  • There is jelly inside the leaves of aloe vera, which has a bitter taste and bad odour. 
  • The leaf length is 25–30 cm, while the width is up to 3–5 cm.
  • Many different types of tractors and farm machines are used for aloe vera cultivation, such as cultivators, harrow, digger, and many more.

Application of Plant Nutrients

  • Apply about 8-10 tonnes of cow dung/ha (field manure/ha) before preparing the land. 
  • Add 35 kg N (Nitrogen), 70 kg P 20 5, Potassium Humate Shiny Flakes (K 20 10%) per hectare before final ploughing. 
  • 35–40 kg N is applied in September – October, and if the soil contains more organic matter, then N drops are reduced. 
  • To control termites, 350-400 kg neem cake/ha.

Irrigation and Intercultural

  • Weeding and hoeing are done after about 40 days. 
  • Soil ploughing is also practised after composting. 
  • Therefore, proper drainage is more critical than irrigation. 
  • Light irrigation is sufficient at the time of drought as per the requirement.

Plant Protection

  • Aloe vera plants require special protection and care as the jelly or juice is directly taken from the aloe vera leaves to use as medicine. 
  • Insects and pests are very harmful to aloe vera leaves as they very severely affected the leaves. 
  • For conservation, the plant requires clean farming, regular irrigation and the use of organic manure.
  • The use of biological sources is another tip for plant protection.
  • Cultivation of aloe vera in sunny conditions is favourable for the healthy growth of aloe vera plants. 
  • An organic source of plant protection material such as raw garlic juice, neem oil (10,000 ppm) 2–3 ml/litre, tobacco extracts 20 ml/litre yielded outstanding results.

Harvesting Of Aloe Vera 

  • Aloe vera harvesting starts after the 7-8 months of planting. 
  • Use a sharp knife to harvest aloe vera plants. Cut aloe vera very carefully as proper care minimizes the loss of juice from the sliced ​​portion.
  • If you want to do harvesting once a year, then the period of October-November is the best.
  • Second-year provides a high yield and can harvest a good outcome for about 4-5 years.
  • After harvesting, leaves are dried in the shade and then before storage in the sun. 
  • The flowers are collected in December – January and preserved after proper drying.
